本部影片在制作过程中并未因循守旧地照搬原著，其中也作了一些较大的改动，其中最大的一处便是把圣经中摩西与法老兰姆西斯之间的冲突改成了一段兄弟恩怨，只是双方各为其主罢了。在片中摩西与兰姆西斯始终都是肝胆相照的好兄弟，即使双方的立场逆转之后，两人仍是彼此关心，这使影片变得更加人性化。
摩西从奴隶到王子再到传教士的传奇故事几千年来一直被人们所传诵，人们赞颂着摩西对耶和华（上帝）的忠诚和他对和平、自由的向往与追求。本片以动画片的形式生动地演绎了这个被称作西方世界中有史以来最伟大的故事。
